About Our Club
The club was formed in 1976 by a dozen or so model enthusiasts as a ‘spin off’ of the Avon Cosmetics Model Club. Sailing took place on the water in front of the factory.
Originally all the members were into IC power boats and multi racing in particular. Racing took place at Billing Aquadrome and later in Beckets Park and many regattas were held there.
The club now consists of a mix of model boats ranging from fast electric to powered and non powered yachts. We still have a small number of multi racers in the club who have excelled at both national and international levels.
Over the years we have sailed at many locations and now have our home water at Whites Nursery, Earls Barton where we have private facilities. This allows us to hold competitions and invite other clubs to sail with us. Our competitions are meant to be fun!
We sail every Sunday from 10.00 am and every Tuesday from 1.00pm though we have to keep cars at the top of the field and walk to the pond during winter or other wet weather days. We are often invited to other clubs and venues to both exhibit and sail - we take our portable pond along to some of them.
We meet at the The Pioneer Pub on Fulford Drive on a fortnightly basis when we bring in our latest models under construction and chat about them. Check our Events page for the date of the next meeting. Whilst we are a relatively small club, we have a few hundred years of modelling experience between us. Meetings are kept as informal as possible and sometimes include visiting speakers on a variety of maritime topics. We build a variety of craft of different scales, and it is not unusual to see a 1:12 lifeboat beside a 1:72 puffer.
We are a friendly club, we encourage new members (of any age) and above all we like to have FUN.
